Welcome to the American Cup of States

What if the U.S. had a national soccer tournament — an "American Cup of States" — like the World Cup for national teams?

What if states in the U.S. had their own "national" teams, complete with player eligibility rules?

Welcome to the site where this fantasy becomes virtual reality.

Player Eligibility

— draft —

As with national team eligibility, players can be claimed by one and only one state.

Players are eligible to play for a state team if any of these are true:

  1. The player was born in the state
  2. The player played high school soccer in the state for at least one season
  3. Foreign-born players are eligible to play for the state of their first professional club team after gaining citizenship
  4. Players may claim their state explicitly by contacting this site

Managers Wanted

Have the time & knowledge to manage a state team? Or do you want to nominate someone else? Let me know.

I'll help set up the state's section, and give you a login, and off you'll go. Basic HTML knowledge is a plus, but not an absolute requirement. (If you want to help out with a state that already has management, you can contact them or me.)

Credits

This site was created and is managed by me, Chris Grayson, an American soccer fan in Austin, TX. You can follow my hometown team, the Austin Aztex, on my blog, The Aztexan.

The idea for this site came from a joke about Texas (considered "a whole other country" by some) not making it to the 2010 World Cup.

Much credit is also due to those who have explored this idea before: Buzz Carrick's Republic of Texas teams on 3rd Degree and Ives Galarcep's All-State Best XIs on Soccer By Ives.
